Verdict:
"Conclusion - You do get a lot of speaker for your £1099.95 (inc. stands). The majority of people who have seen the Lintons in our room have guesstimated a retail price of much more than £1100, especially after hearing them. Yes, they are a bold statement sat there in their bell-bottomed finary but don't mistake their retro-chic for not being au fait with the latest Grime, Folktronica or Glitch Hop. The Wharfedale Lintons are capable of producing trouser-flapping bass as well as being able to pick out the sweetest highs. Where we have heard more accurate and more detailed loudspeakers, the Lintons have a dash of fun and an easy-going appeal that makes them instantly loveable. As well as possessing an enjoyably expansive soundstage, the Lintons also have a well-presented depth, front-to-back. That, matched by the Linton's impressive sense of timing, sees them consistently punching above their pay-grade. A thoroughly well-made 3-way speaker with heritage almost literally written all over them."

PRODUCT INFORMATION

To celebrate its history, Wharfedale has launched the Heritage Series, a recreation of famous models from the past, completely redeveloped using contemporary techniques and materials. The newest speaker in this collection is the Linton.

The original Linton was launched in 1965 and continued in various versions until the late 1970s. It was a classic model of its time that was considered a serious hi-fi speaker but was also relatively affordable. The cabinet was large enough to accommodate three drivers including a large bass, but was not overly bulky for the time.

The new Linton has a clear family resemblance. It is also a three-way floor model - a rarity these days - and has similar proportions to the classic Linton models. The wood-veneered casing has a vintage look, but the workmanship is extremely contemporary.

Retro style, timeless musicality

The Linton takes advantage of its large design by using a large (by modern standards) woofer with a 200mm Kevlar cone on a rigid die-cast chassis. Above this sits a 135 mm midrange driver, which also has a woven Kevlar membrane and is housed in its own housing. Finally, a 25 mm fabric dome tweeter with a high-ferrite magnet ensures the high frequencies.

The original Linton models from the 1960s and 1970s were known for their rich and natural sound quality; the new model retains these features but improves performance in all areas. The bass is deep and well-defined, the midrange clear and open, with free-breathing dynamics and an expansive scale that brings music to life. It's a sound you can immerse yourself in and get lost in as you listen to album after album; a nostalgic nod to the past taken to a forward-looking level.

Designed to convince

This speaker exudes authenticity and is intended for the passionate music lover.

In keeping with a design to be appreciated, the new Linton features handcrafted wood veneers and optional matching stands in a similarly classic style. The stands have been custom-built to ensure each speaker is positioned at the perfect height for a seated listener. The stand's rigid metal frame provides critical dampening of unwanted vibrations and is embellished with wood veneer panels on the top and bottom to complement the speakers. The design even provides space for storing vinyl records within the stand structure.

Back in Black

Now also available in a new, modern Black Oak finish, the Wharfedale LINTON represents one of the most iconic models in the long history of Wharfedale loudspeakers. A model that embodies Wharfedale's pioneering research in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, with a pedigree dating back to 1965. The LINTON has always been manufactured according to the Wharfedale principles of quality and optimal value for money.
