The traditional FE full-range series now features Alnico magnets

Since the introduction of the FE103 full-range speaker in 1964, the FE series has utilized ferrite magnets, with the exception of limited editions. This series employs high-quality Alnico magnets, which are highly prized by audiophiles. While preserving the traditional FE sound—vibrant, bright, and transparent—it delivers high-quality, expressive, dynamic, smooth, and pleasing audio reproduction. Continuing Fostex’s full-range heritage, the "A" series (featuring Alnico magnets) presents a specialized lineup comprising 8 cm and 10 cm models. These models maximize the potential of Alnico magnets through state-of-the-art technology.

Alnico magnet implementation

For the first time in the standard FE series, we have incorporated the renowned Alnico magnet, celebrated for its expressive and pleasing sound quality. Additionally, copper caps are fitted to the pole pieces within the magnetic circuit to reduce current-induced distortion. This minimizes distortion in the drive system and further enhances clarity in the mid-to-high frequency ranges.

Double-layer paper cone

The cone utilizes a double-layer ES construction featuring fine, flexible, high-density fibers. This achieves superior rigidity and internal damping while maintaining low mass. The base layer, composed primarily of long-fiber cellulose, provides high rigidity and internal damping thanks to its voluminous structure. The surface layer incorporates short-fiber cellulose, increasing the speed of sound propagation across the diaphragm. This enables the reproduction of bright, tight mid-tones alongside clear, well-defined highs and rich, powerful bass. The double-layer cone paper is produced using a manufacturing method developed and patented by Fostex, in which a single diaphragm consisting of two layers—a base layer and a surface layer—is created through a two-stage paper-forming process.

Reduced mid-range distortion through new wiring design

The weight of the cable attached to the diaphragm resulted in uneven weight distribution. In addition to the circular vibration modes inherent to cone-shaped diaphragms, this caused uneven split resonance, contributing to mid-range distortion. Eliminating the cables reduces harmonic distortion in the mid-range.

Pocket Neck Damper

The "Pocket Neck Damper" method is employed to achieve the aforementioned eyelet-free design while simultaneously enabling a three-point bond—where the voice coil, damper, and cone paper are bonded along the same circumference.

Gold-Plated Terminals

The input terminals utilize low-loss, gold-plated Type 205 Faston connectors. This ensures a reliable connection for the speaker cable while preventing any degradation in sound quality.
