Fyne Audio

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

FYNE AUDIO is based in Scotland. The company's long-standing expertise in acoustics and manufacturing technology, dedicated to loudspeaker production, has been further refined since its founding and is reflected in the development of new technologies for the highest quality standards, regardless of price range.

THE TECHNOLOGY OF FYNE AUDIO LOUDSPEAKERS

IsoFlare™

The FYNE AUDIO IsoFlare™ driver is a point source with a coaxial arrangement of the woofer and tweeter. This design offers precise stereo imaging with uniform dispersion and constant directivity; the sound appears to emanate from a single, focused point in the room.

BASSTRAX™ Reflex System with Tractrix Contour

The Tractrix curve is always perpendicular to the wavefront and is therefore immune to unwanted reflections. The innovative low-frequency waveguide makes placement in the room less problematic.

FYNEFLUTE™ Surround Mounting

FYNE AUDIO has left no stone unturned in optimizing the performance of its models in every respect. One of the new solutions is the improved surround mounting of the speaker cones, which avoids the detrimental effects of conventional rubber surrounds on the sound.

IN A NUTSHELL

FYNE AUDIO’s IsoFlare™ driver technology is a point source design in which a tweeter is coaxially mounted in the center of a woofer cone. Due to the shape of the cone, this design allows for excellent stereo imaging even off-axis, thanks to uniform dispersion with constant directivity. These are the defining characteristics of a point source.

Acoustic Development

Dr. Paul Mills, Technical Director of Fyne Audio, has extensive experience in this field. He is supported by other employees responsible for sonic results and mechanical design, all of whom possess expertise acquired over many years.

Material Selection

To optimize the loudspeakers' performance, every single design step is carefully considered. For example, the drivers are made of particularly rigid die-cast aluminum to avoid unwanted resonances that would impair the sound. Paper cones made of a fiber composite ensure exceptionally natural midrange reproduction and clean impulse response.

Small Measures – Big Impact

A vented chamber in the neodymium magnet behind the tweeter diaphragm shifts the resonant frequency significantly below the crossover frequency. Conversely, the breakup region lies well above the human hearing range, so that the rigid titanium diaphragm exhibits a balanced frequency response across its entire frequency range. The sophisticated geometry of the tweeter's waveguide supports this smooth frequency response and suppresses internal reflections.

THE HOW AND WHY OF BASSTRAX™ SOUND GUIDE

The bookshelf and floorstanding speakers, from the F500 series to the flagship F1, feature a downward-firing bass reflex port, with the floorstanding models also incorporating a dual-chamber enclosure. This extends the effective frequency range and reduces cone excursion, while simultaneously acting as a damper by preventing standing waves in the port.

Perfect Room Integration

Below the bass reflex port is a patent-pending, tractrix-shaped sound diffuser that evenly distributes the radiated energy throughout the room.

BassTrax™ Tractrix Curve

This contour was already used by Paul Voight in the 1920s for horn loudspeakers, but its application as a sound diffuser is, in our view, a novelty. The mathematical curve is known for its property that wavefronts always travel perpendicular to the contour, thus avoiding reflections and making the speaker uncritical in terms of room placement.

All things are not equal.

Special attention was also paid to resonance reduction in the design of the edge clamping. Energy can be reflected back onto the diaphragm at certain frequencies if the clamping is symmetrical. The FyneFlute™ technology provides a non-homogeneous edge to the diaphragm, which absorbs the kinetic energy. This computer-aided design prevents the musical coloration caused by a poorly optimized edge clamping.
