Five Decades of Experience in Audio Technology

For five decades, QED has been developing and manufacturing first-class, award-winning analog and digital cables—and the Golden Anniversary XT is the latest testament to the company’s extensive expertise.

Quality Electronic Design (QED) was founded in 1973 by hi-fi enthusiasts Bob Abraham and Ian Vine, who were ahead of their time with their vision of developing specialized cables for audio reproduction. It is no coincidence that the company is now considered the originator of hi-fi cables, having launched the QED 79 Strand, the world’s first specialized speaker cable. This product demonstrated how cables can have a noticeable impact on audio reproduction.

X-Tube™ Plus Technology

In QED’s innovative and proven X-Tube™ technology, a cable’s conductors are arranged around a central plastic tube, which minimizes the skin effect that would otherwise push high-frequency analog music signals to the outer surface of the conductor. By combining this arrangement with the equally effective Aircore™ technology, QED also reduces the proximity effect, which can disrupt current distribution in a speaker cable. The resulting X-Tube™ Plus technology represents a groundbreaking cable geometry that allows the Golden Anniversary XT speaker cable to transmit audio signals with absolute uniformity across the entire audible frequency range.

High-Purity OCC Copper Conductors

The conductors of the Golden Anniversary XT consist of a unique hybrid blend of 99.99% oxygen-free copper (OFC) and ultra-pure Ohno Continuous Cast Copper (UP-OCC) to ensure an optimal signal path—and at a fraction of the price typically charged for such materials. Thanks to our intensive research and development, the QED Golden Anniversary XT is the most affordable speaker cable to utilize the benefits of the continuous casting process, with the hybrid construction elevating the transmission of high-frequency detail to a level not possible with OFC alone.

Low-loss, ultra-uniform dielectric

A speaker cable can only reach its full potential if the dielectric material effectively insulates and protects the cable’s conductors from one another. The Golden Anniversary XT features a dielectric made from a special low-density polyethylene (LDPE) that, in combination with the cable’s X-Tube Plus configuration, ensures high efficiency and a loss factor that is barely measurable.
