The Dan Clark Audio ÆON CORE is a closed-back, over-ear planar magnetic headphone and the direct successor to the ÆON 2. It offers a neutral, lively sound signature based on Harman’s current reference tuning and combines the highest precision with comfort suitable for both everyday use and studio applications. Thanks to its high efficiency, the ÆON CORE can be used flexibly with both portable and desktop headphone amplifiers.

Newly Developed Planar Magnetic Driver

The ÆON CORE features a completely newly developed planar magnetic driver designed for efficiency and tonal consistency. With a sensitivity of approximately 97 dB/mW and an impedance of 17 ohms, it is one of the easiest-to-drive models from Dan Clark Audio. As a result, the headphones perform superbly with modern dongles, portable DACs/amps, and compact desktop amplifiers, without necessarily requiring large headphone amplifiers.

Tuning Based on the Updated Harman Reference

The ÆON CORE’s sound tuning follows a revised Harman over-ear target curve, which Dan Clark redefined in collaboration with Dr. Sean Olive for current measurement systems. The result is a balanced, natural sound with tight, controlled bass, a slightly boosted lower midrange, and a gently relaxed upper midrange. Voices are reproduced clearly and with presence, acoustic instruments retain their body and substance, and the low frequencies remain precise without pushing themselves to the forefront.

Low-Distortion Planar Technology

The ÆON CORE leverages all the advantages of planar magnetic drivers: fast transients, high detail resolution, and very low distortion. The finest spatial cues and subtle details are rendered cleanly without the headphones sounding artificial or fatiguing. This makes them suitable for both critical listening and long listening sessions.

Closed-back, over-ear design for focused listening

As a closed-back, over-ear headphone, the ÆON CORE effectively blocks out ambient noise and reduces sound leakage. This makes it ideal for home environments, offices, or home studios where focused listening is required without disturbing others.

High Comfort and Premium Materials

True to Dan Clark Audio’s tradition, the ÆON CORE combines a lightweight design of approximately 328 g with a lightweight titanium headband and a self-adjusting headband. The ergonomically shaped ÆON ear pads distribute pressure evenly and ensure high long-term comfort. The new aluminum and wood finish gives the headphones a modern, premium look that complements high-end audio systems visually.

Practical Performance

Thanks to its high efficiency, the ÆON CORE performs superbly even when paired with compact mobile solutions. An amplifier with at least 125 mW of power at 16 ohms is recommended; additional power reserves are welcome but not strictly necessary.
