M6sPRE – Overview

The M6sPRE is a virtually limitless preamplifier. Thanks to its wide range of inputs and its outstanding sonic performance, it forms the center of your HiFi system - regardless of the price range of the connected devices. The circuit design is pure Class-A and can drive any power amplifier over any cable length.

The M6sPRE features a range of inputs suitable for both traditional and modern music sources. It features an MM/MC phono stage, two balanced inputs, three line-level connectors, a fully configured tape in/out loop and a digital USB jack.

Its sonic capabilities are breathtaking. The M6s PRE sounds sinewy, clear and fast with tight, controlled bass.

As is usual with MUSICAL FIDELITY amplifiers, there are bypass options that make integration into an ambitious home theater system easy.

M6sPRE – Technical background

Like all of its M6 siblings, the M6sPRE is very elegantly constructed. The front panel is made from a bespoke extruded profile with knobs and buttons made from aluminum machined to military specifications. Even the Musical Fidelity logo is made of medical grade stainless steel.

The MM/MC phono stage was designed for lowest noise, very accurate RIAA equalization, low distortion and large headroom.

The M6sPRE is completely balanced from input to output jacks - unlike some competing so-called "balanced" models that place an unbalanced preamp between their balanced connections.

The M6sPRE uses state-of-the-art pure Class A circuitry. It enables this fast, pure and clear playback with dense, extended bass. All of this is the foundation of what the M6sPRE's main goal is: delivering fantastic sounding music.

The distortions are very low at less than 0.005%, and even below 0.004% in symmetrical operation. The signal-to-noise ratio is very high at 96 dB and the usable frequency response is between 10 Hz and 80 kHz. Within this very broad frequency spectrum, the deviations are never more than 1 dB.

The integrated phono stage is also outstanding. It has very precise RIAA equalization with the lowest deviation. The signal-to-noise ratios for both MM and MC operation deliver excellent values. The overall distortions are also at the lowest level.

The asynchronous 24 bit / 96 kHz USB input connects to a PC, notebook or MAC and enables very high-quality playback of modern media with the shortest and optimally coordinated signal paths. Simply connect the USB cable to the computer and you can enjoy HD audio with videos, music and streaming. Jitter and noise are incredibly low and distortion is virtually non-existent. The M6sPRE's USB input is capable of extracting the finest details from the computer source.

A special feature of all MUSICAL FIDELITY amplifiers are the HT inputs. One RCA and one symmetrical XLR input can be configured using a switch so that the incoming signal is routed directly to the outputs for the power amplifier (HT), the volume control so omitted. Normally these inputs simply serve as additional high level inputs (AUX or Balanced 1).

MUSICAL FIDELITY offers the M6sPRX stereo power amplifier as a natural playing partner. With its extensive connection options, bi- or even tri-amping configurations can also be implemented.
