MX-HPA – Overview

At MUSICAL FIDELITY, special amplifiers for headphones have a long tradition. Anyone who has ever plugged headphones from their smartphone into one of our headphone amplifiers knows why.

Although headphones are much smaller and their sound-emitting membranes are located very close to the ear, they are still loudspeakers. Anyone who is serious about listening to music with headphones knows that their power supply requires more effort. Although the MUSICAL FIDELITY MX-HPA's predecessor, the M1 HPA, was already very good, we wanted to do something even greater. The fully balanced headphone amplifier MX-HPA is the result of our decades of developing high-quality headphone amplifiers.

In comparison, the MX-HPA passes on about the same power to headphones as the unique M8 700M power amplifiers to speakers. This is awe-inspiring, unbelievable, limitless and every other exaggeration you can think of. He's really fantastic.

MX-HPA – Technical background

The technical performance of the MX HPA is almost breathtaking. The typical distortion from 20 Hz to 40 kHz is less than 0.005%. These are serious values. The signal-to-noise ratio is better than 120 dB (A). And the linearity of the frequency response is from 10 Hz to 20 kHz with a deviation of only -0.1 dB - that sets new standards.

It is capable of a short-term peak of 10 watts and has two gain levels of 18 dB (8X) and 24 dB (15X). The inputs are both balanced and asymmetrical. Internally, the MX-HPA automatically converts all unbalanced signals to balanced ones.
 
The reviews of the MX-HPA are correspondingly euphoric: The headphone trade magazine EarIn writes: “The MX-HPA handles both conventionally and symmetrically controllable headphones confidently and scores with an impeccable sound that dispenses with effects and allows you to immerse yourself deeply in the music .
