M2si – Overview

With the M2 series, we have succeeded in transporting the unique sound but also the excellent workmanship quality of MUSICAL FIDELITY into a completely new price range. The entire experience from almost 40 years of hi-fi development and production of even the most complex products has been incorporated into the circuitry of this series. Manufacturing quality is just as important to us. This claim is underpinned by the elegant design and the great touch quality.

M2si – Technical background

The M2si offers 6 high-level inputs, one of which can be switched either as an AUX input or as an HT (home theater) input directly to the integrated power amplifier without volume control.

The M2si stands for extremely impressive high-end sound quality. Its continuous output of 75 watts at 8 ohms and 135 watts at 4 ohms is absolutely sufficient for almost all applications. The high filter capacity enables a stable and deep stereo sound image with impulsive dynamics. On top of that, the M2si also offers flawless resolution.

The M2si also benefits from MUSICAL FIDELITY's exclusive SMD board technology. This reduces the circuit space required on the motherboard and allows us much more flexibility in circuit design.

As is usual with MUSICAL FIDELITY, the measured values ​​are not an end in themselves but are still impressive. The distortions are 0.014%. The frequency response linearity is an impressive -0.1 dB across the entire frequency band. The M3i is characterized by very low distortion, less than 0.02% (measured from 20Hz to 20KHz). Most manufacturers do not measure across the entire frequency range because they do not consider it relevant. They argue that one cannot hear such high frequencies and therefore consider this irrelevant. We can't disagree strongly enough! We know that the high frequency distortions are crucial for the correctness of the entire circuit and its implementation for the sound. Being able to drive loudspeakers with a wide bandwidth under all loads without distortion is the most important basis for music.

The preamplifier in the M2si is a real Class-A circuit and has its own power supply and a separate transformer winding. It is actually a pre/power amplifier combination in one housing.

A special feature that all MUSICAL FIDELITY amplifiers have is the AUX / HT input. With this input it is possible, coming from a multi-channel processor, to route the signal for the two front speakers directly to the power amplifiers of the M2si.

This means that even the most demanding cinephiles can use the sound quality of their M2si without having to change the connection and without having to forego the extensive comfort features of their AV controller.

The processor then takes over volume and bass management; at this point the M2si only acts as a power amplifier. This means that other configurations are also conceivable, such as bi-amping with a second M2si or setups with active crossovers. The M2si also has 2 outputs, which make it very flexible to use. The TAPE REC output is a volume-uncontrolled output, for example for a recording device. The PRE OUT output is volume-controlled and allows the connection of active subwoofers, active speakers or the integration of a second amplifier for bi-amping.

We developed the M2si so that it works smoothly in everyday life. The switching works silently and the volume control is designed so that the full sound potential can always be exploited, even at the lowest listening levels. It may be very inexpensive, but it still fulfills all your wishes and is a real audiophile gem. The sound quality of the M2si reflects the immense effort in development and production. He sounds as good as he looks. The sound is gentle, confident and structured. Although the playback is very natural and tempts you to listen to music for hours, it avoids any coloration or even artificially beautiful sound. All of this at an extremely moderate price.
