Goldring E4 MM Catridge
With the E4, Goldring presents the new flagship among the magnetic systems of the E series. The highlight of this inexpensive product family was developed as the ultimate upgrade for all modern entry-level and mid-range turntables.
The E4 is compatible with all medium to high mass tonearms found in most budget to mid-range turntables. And since the magnetic system is made from the same high-quality core as the other E-Series pickups, the E4 is ideal for anyone looking to replace their old pickup.
Product description
The most important features at a glance
The E4 features a bare superelliptical stylus measuring just 7.6 x 18 microns (0.3 x 0.7 mil), cut and polished from a single homogeneous piece of diamond. This results in a lower effective mass and improved rigidity, making it possible to sample high-frequency details much better than with an elliptical stylus. The E4 is far less prone to errors or overshoots during high-frequency groove modulations, and its finely polished 7.6 micron profile means it reads even very narrow grooves better. Lower distortion, improved transient response and an even frequency response ensure superior sound fidelity compared to all comparable priced alternatives.
Needle carrier made of hollow aluminum
To complement the low mass stylus, the E4 features a hollow aluminum stylus carrier. The material's light weight and superior rigidity allow the stylus to sample medium to high frequencies with greater accuracy while reducing distortion and misalignment.
Magnetic Duplex Technology™
In records, the stereo information is contained in a single V-shaped groove, the side walls of which are at an angle of 45 degrees to each other. Conventional pickups, which use a single large magnet that interacts with two vertically mounted coils (one for the left and one for the right channel) to extract a stereo signal from the groove, often exhibit high levels of crosstalk - and consequently only a modest separation of the left and right channels. The E4 uses Goldring's Magnetic Duplex Technology™, where two low-mass magnets are positioned at the same angles as the coils so that each magnet only interacts with its partner coil. This allows the E4 to reproduce the information from the groove more accurately, resulting in better stereo separation and a more precise sound image.
Comprehensive adjustment options
The azimuth describes the angle that the vertical center line of the stylus makes with the surface of the record - it must be exactly perpendicular to the groove. Owners of cheaper turntables usually have no option to adjust the azimuth. Therefore, it is important that the cartridge is accurately adjusted before inserting it into the turntable's tonearm - a poorly adjusted azimuth can lead to increased crosstalk and uneven channel balance. The E4 is designed to allow micro-adjustments to be made during the production process, so that every pickup system leaving the Goldring factory does not require further azimuth adjustment.

- The new naked super-elliptical diamond needle features lower effective mass, higher rigidity and better high-frequency detail reproduction than bonded elliptical alternatives.
- The low weight and superior rigidity of the hollow aluminum cantilever allows the stylus to sample medium to high frequencies with greater accuracy.
- Magnetic Duplex Technology™ enables more accurate transmission of the stereo groove, resulting in a more precise sound image.
- Adjustment options for experts: Unlike most other designs, the E4 allows micro-adjustments to be made during the production process, so that every pickup system leaves the Goldring factory with optimized settings for channel equality and crosstalk.
