LX2-HPA – Overview

At MUSICAL FIDELITY, special amplifiers for headphones have a long tradition. Anyone who has ever plugged headphones from their smartphone into one of our headphone amplifiers knows why.

Although headphones are much smaller and their sound-emitting membranes are located very close to the ear, they are still loudspeakers. Anyone who is serious about listening to music with headphones knows that their power supply requires more effort. LX2-HPA is the result of our decades of developing high-quality headphone amplifiers.

A headphone amplifier is like a small power amplifier, the technical requirements are similar relative to the load (the headphones): excellent load tolerance, high stability margins, low distortion, wide bandwidth, low noise, excellent channel separation. In comparison, the LX2-HPA passes on about the same power to headphones as the unique M6si amplifier to speakers. So you can enjoy your headphones with the assurance that there will never be a lack of performance. Its musical and dynamic capabilities will allow you to experience your music in a completely new way.

LX2-HPA – Technical background

The technical performance of the LX2 HPA is almost breathtaking. The LX2-HPA can easily be operated with any standard headphones. The typical distortions are below 0.0035% and are therefore practically inaudible. The frequency response extends to around 80 kHz and even at 40 kHz the distortion remains well below 0.05%. A remarkable achievement.The outstanding noise ratio of over 112dB means that the music plays against a completely black background. The stereo separation is excellent and ensures an absolutely stable representation of the sound events: the adventure in your head can begin! The connections are very diverse and practical. The signals present at the stereo RCA (Cinch) input are output untreated at the output marked OUTPUT. This means you don’t “use up” any connections on your existing system. On the front there are two headphone outputs with the 3.5 and 6.3 mm stereo jack sockets commonly used on the market. This saves you from having to use annoying adapters, which don't make the signal any better. In addition, two headphones can be operated at the same time with barely noticeable lower performance.
