Leveraging DTS:X® technology optimized for the IMAX signature experience, IMAX Enhanced reproduces the full dynamic range of IMAX theatrical mixes. IMAX mode delivers IMAX Enhanced content as the filmmakers intended.

THX® Certified Select cinema reference sound

Experience the same reference volume as a commercial cinema in rooms where the distance between the screen and the seat is approximately 3.5 m. Certified receivers must pass 2,000 bench tests in 75 categories.

The features defined in HDMI 2.1 enable 8K/60p passthrough to a compatible display. In addition to HDR10 and HLG, the HDR10+ and Dolby Vision™ formats also optimize brightness, contrast and color image by image. All HDMI ports support HDCP 2.3, while eARC on the Main Out routes multi-channel audio (including Dolby Atmos® or DTS:X) from the TV to the AVR for decoding and amplification. QMS (Quick Media Switching) reduces screen blanking when switching HDMI sources.

Note: The functions defined in HDMI 2.1 are supported on HDMI inputs 1-6, Main Out and Sub/Zone 2 Out in Sub mode output.

Dolby Atmos height virtualizer

The Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer expands the Dolby® formats for an even more immersive experience. It creates virtual surround and height effects using a traditional speaker setup.

Exclusive refinements for clear sound

The HDMI board has short signal paths and a well-processed ground that suppresses interference. The SoC board is isolated from the audio circuitry to reduce interference. Reinforced power supply line and refined power amplifier ground with copper busbar reduce circuit noise for dense, clear and detailed sound.

Add this receiver to your Sonos Home Sound System by simply pairing it with a Sonos Connect or Port*. The AVR is connected to the Sonos ecosystem, changes inputs and responds to volume commands from the Sonos app*.

Chromecast built-in™ works with Ok Google

Stream music from your smartphone, laptop or PC to the receiver via built-in Chromecast and control playback of Chromecast-enabled apps from iPhone, iPad, Android™ phone or tablet, Mac or Windows® PC or Chromebook™. Easily control audio playback on this and other supported devices with your voice.

Compatible with Alexa

Use your voice to control the AVR by issuing commands through an Alexa device. Whether you want to listen to music, radio stations or podcasts, all you have to do is ask. It also supports multiroom music* that plays on multiple devices.

*Multiroom music may require a firmware update.

Connecting speakers for multiroom sound

The Powered Zone 2 and Zone 3 outputs connect passive speakers in two additional rooms to a 5.2-channel speaker system in your main listening room. Together with MAIN, the Zone 2 and Zone 3 DACs support D/A audio playback (including HDMI, SPDIF and NET) in three rooms. With the Onkyo Controller, you can sync the same song or play different songs in each room to manage your entertainment.

Note: Zone 3 only supports analog/NET. Zone 2 HDMI audio is available via inputs 1-3. HDMI and SPDIF only support PCM.

5GHz/2.4GHz Wi-Fi® supports 802.11ac standard

The isolated 1.8GHz quad-core SoC performs multiple processing tasks simultaneously. It further develops network functions and supports the 802.11ac standard (2x2 MIMO) for stable multiroom audio streaming.

Note: Some countries or regions have regulations that affect wireless signal strength and Wi-Fi channel usage.

Bidirectional Bluetooth® wireless technology

Send or receive audio via Bluetooth wireless technology. Stream from your laptop, digital audio player or mobile phone to the receiver via SBC or AAC, or feed what's playing in the main zone* to a pair of wireless headphones via SBC, aptX™ or aptX HD codecs.

*Audio built in via Chromecast and works with Alexa excluded.

Comfortable Zone 2 and Zone B pre/line out

The RCA pre/line out has two modes: Zone 2 supports the connection of active speakers or a hi-fi system and can synchronize D/A audio in MAIN and Zone 2 or play a different source in each. Zone B plays MAIN audio through compatible wireless headphones via a connected headphone dock.

Note: Zone 2 mode supports HDMI audio via inputs 1-3. SPDIF and HDMI only support PCM. Zone B mode is line level only and supports encoded or PCM signals (all inputs) in MAIN and Zone B.

Dirac Live® room correction

Dirac Live analyzes your audio system and listening environment by examining acoustic data measured with a setup microphone. It corrects both the timing and amplitude aspects of sound coloration using a phase-mixed correction filter across the entire listening range, not just a specific zone. The correction is carried out automatically via a proprietary app for smartphone or tablet*. Dirac Live improves staging, localization, clarity, speech intelligibility and bass reproduction.

*Mobile device and AVR must be connected to the same local network.

Flexibility for custom setups

Connect an external power amplifier or motorized projector screen via the AVR's 12V trigger output and automatically turn it on with your AVR, with CEC doing the same job for media players via HDMI. An IR repeater input allows you to hide the AVR away from the screen - ideal for bespoke cinemas. Ethernet and RS-232 ports integrate the AVR into your automation system, with the former supporting setup and web browser control via a PC.
